- Sure cell sensors for accurate readings and fast response to gas hazards
Is the Gas Alert Quattro the right monitor for me?
Yes, if you are doing confined space work. Many instruments on the market are overly complicated and oriented more towards industrial hygiene professionals. The Gas Alert Quattro is made for workers entering confined spaces and is easy to use. Simply press the button to turn the instrument on. After a short warm up procedure it will then display the current levels of gas. The instrument is now ready to use. To ensure safety the new Intelliflash feature will emit a flashing green light every few seconds so that you can have complete confidence that the monitor is operating properly. What are the Differences between the discontinued Gas Alert Micro and the new Gas Alert Quattro?
The Gas Alert Micro was a very popular instrument that was discontinued by BW Technologies and replaced by the new Gas Alert Quattro. Many customers have expressed an interest in the differences between these two monitors. The main differences are the larger easier to read LCD display and the new Surecell sensors, and water resistance. One of the drawbacks of the Gas Alert Micro was its display which was sometimes hard to read. This has been completely fixed in the new Gas Alert Quattro which features a large easy to read display. Another improvement is the water resistance which is rated at IP 66/67 and protects against being dropped in the water or used in the rain.
Sampling Options
The Gas Alert Quattro is a diffusion style gas monitor meaning that it does not have a built in sampling pump, however remote sampling is easily accomplished with the Gas Alert Sampler Pack (P/N# GA-SPAK). This kit contains the sampling pump and tubing which will allow you to take remote gas samples. Simply attach the Sampler Pack to the Quattro and drop the tubing down into the confined space. You must take a sample reading every 4 feet since different gases have different weights and this causes the gases to be located at different levels. For example Methane which is lighter than air will tend to hover around the top of the confined space. Hydrogen Sulfide which is a gas that is heavier than air will tend to hover around floor level. You will also need to wait 2 seconds per foot of tubing for the gas to make its way through the tubing and back to the instrument.
Flexible Power Options
Choose between Rechargeable or Alkaline batteries. The rechargeable option is good if you are using the instrument every day. The Alkaline option is a good choice if you are using the monitor for doing quick spot checks or if you don't need to use it frequently. One of the most attractive features of the Gas Alert Quattro is the ability to quickly swap between Alkaline and Rechargeable packs. This is especially ideal if someone forgets to charge the instrument, simply switch to the alkaline pack and you are ready to work. No wasted time waiting for the battery to charge.
Calibration
Calibration on the Gas Alert Quattro is not an intimidating and arduous task like it is on some other gas monitors. It is a simple one button procedure that takes 2 minutes. To calibrate just turn on the Gas Alert Quattro and hold down the on/off button. The instrument will turn off but continue holding down the button, it will then turn back on and go into a countdown 3, 2, 1. After the countdown it will then automatically zero the sensors and then go into auto span. At this point attach the calibration gas and the Gas Alert Quattro will do everything else. When the calibration is complete you will be notified by a beep and the instrument is now accurately calibrated. The cylinder of calibration gas that you will need is 100 PPM CO, 25 PPM H2S, 50% LEL CH4 (Methane), and 18%/Vol O2 (P/N# CG-Q34-4). The regulator is a 0.5 LPM regulator which attaches to the cylinder(P/N# REG-0.5). The calibration adaptor comes in the box with each instrument. For customers that choose not to purchase a calibration kit you can send the Quattro in every 6 months for professional calibration.
