Formaldehyde is a carcinogenic chemical that is used in glues, deodaorants, and many products where quick drying properties are required.

It is also used in hospitals as a preserving agent. The World Health Organization has set a standard of 0.08ppm average exposure for 20 minutes, and the American ACGIH has set a ceiling exposure value of 0.3 ppm. Formaldehyde affects residents of new homes or offices, and is considered as one cause of "Sick Building Syndrome" (When residents in buildings feel dizzy or nauseous. Sometimes it can also cause skin rash, cough, and liver or kidney damage).
