GasAlert MicroClip Firmware Update Procedure

 

REQUIREMENTS

To update the GasAlertMicroClip gas detector with the latest fi rmware the following are required:

1. Updated Firmware Files (version 11H or 30C)

2. GasAlertMicroClip IR Link Cable (GA-USB1-IR) If you do not have an IR Link cable, contact your local distributor, your Regional Sales Manager, or BW Technologies Customer Service.

3. A computer (PC) with Windows 2000 or higher.

4. GasAlertMicroClip Soft Tools Software (version 10F or higher) The latest version of Soft Tools can be downloaded from www.gasmonitors.com, or from the latest Soft Tools CD-ROM supplied by BW Technologies by Honeywell. The fi le size is approximately 20MB.

5. GasAlertMicroClip Gas Detector(s)

 

PROCEDURE OVERVIEW

To update the GasAlertMicroClip to the latest fi rmware, complete the following steps:

1. Install the latest version of Soft Tools software on the computer (PC).

2. Download the latest firmware version onto the computer (PC).

3. Upload the latest firmware version from the computer (PC) to the detector.

 

SOFT TOOLS:

Step 1.1 - Download Soft Tools fi les from the BW website

a) Go to BW’s website at www.gasmonitors.com

b) Navigate to the GasAlertMicroClip page. From the Home page click: Portables --> Multi-Gas Detectors --> GasAlertMicroClip

c) Click on “Software ” in the menu on the left

d) Click on the link “SoftToolsSetup-XXX.zip” (XXX = current version number)

e) The File Download window appears.

f) Click "Save" Button and choose location.

g) Open the ZIP file and save the Soft Tools file contents on the computer.

 

Step 1.2 - Install Soft Tools

a) Navigate to where the Soft Tools files are saved. Double-click on: BWUserSoftToolsSetup-XXX.exe

b) The BW Technologies Soft Tools Setup window appears.

c) The Destination Folder automatically navigates to where the existing Soft Tools program is saved.

d) Click "Install" Button. (takes approximately 20 seconds to install)

e) Click "Finish" to complete the installation.

 

GASALERTMICROCLIP FIRMWARE:

Step 2 Downloading firmware

a) Go to www.gasmonitors.com

b) Navigate to the GasAlertMicroClip page. From the Home page click: Portables --> Multi-Gas Detectors --> GasAlertMicroClip

c) Click on “NEW Firmware ” in the menu on the left

d) Select the firmware version needed dependant on the unit’s serial number. For units with a serial number starting with KA1 select 11H.
For units with a serial number starting with KA2 select 30C.

Caution: Ensure the firmware is 11H or higher or 30B or higher. If it is not, contact BW Technologies.

e) Complete form and click "Procerd to Download" Button.

f) The fi le download window appears. Click "Save" Button and save the Zip file on the computer.

g) Open the ZIP file and save the file contents on the computer.

 

Step 3 Uploading fi rmware from the computer to the detector

a) Activate the detector and wait for start-up to complete.

b) Connect the IR Link to the detector and the computer USB port. (Note: For instruction on how to connect the IR Link to the detector and the computer, refer to the GasAlertMicroClip Soft Tools Instruction Sheet)

c) Open Soft Tools. (Double click the BW icon on the PC desktop or navigate through the Start menu)

d) Under the “Device Operations” tab, click "Bootloader" Button. The GasAlertMicroClip Bootloader pop-up displays.

e) Click "Upload Firmware Update ".

f) "Choose Firmware file to upload" window opens.

g) Select the fi rmware fi le (124499_GMCF-XXX_bootloadable.bin)

h) Click "Open" Button.

i) The firmware uploads to the detector in approximately 60 seconds.

j) When the upload is complete, “Firmware Upload Successful” displays.

k) The detector’s firmware will now be reconfigured. The detector’s LCD displays LOADING and after approximately 10 seconds the detector deactivates to signal a successful upload.

l) Once the detector is activated again, the latest firmware revision will appear on the LCD during the start-up proces.

Please check the BW website periodically to ensure the fi rmware version loaded on each GasAlertMicroClip is the most current version. If you require assistance please contact your local BW Sales Manager or a BW Technologies office.
